Dinas Powys 19 Cefn Coed 18

In a game that was very keenly contested from the outset, the first half saw some very strong drives from the Cefn pack and the Dinas Powys side kept out of the Cefn twenty two.

Cefn opened the scoring with a penalty from outside half, Jonathan Lewis.

With a scrum 5 metres out and another good drive from the Cefn pack, No. 8 Jason Price picked up and charged over for a try.  This put the Cefn side 8 points into the lead.

With the Cefn pack continuing to attack the Dinas Powys line, another charge by Jason Price saw him brought down just short of the line.  The ball was recycled and went along the backs.  However the ball was dropped allowing Dinas Powys to gather and get the ball to right wing, Nick Coles who ran the length of the pitch to score under the posts.  Outside half David Lloyd had no problem with the conversion.  This put the score at 7-8 to the visitors at half time.

The try saw the Dinas Powys backs play with more confidence in the second half, and they opened the scoring with some strong running up the touchline by centre, Adam Williams who crossed for a try.  Again David Lloyd was successful with the conversion.  This saw the lead pass to Dinas Powys by 14 points to eight.

With Cefn attacking, and from a scrum taken against the head, No. 8 Jason Price picked up and charged over for his second try.  This narrowed the lead to 14-13.

With the Dinas Powys backs continuing to look sharp, a breakaway from the half way line saw centre, Adam Williams cross for his second try and to increase his side’s lead to 19-13.

In a nail-biting finish, Cefn continued to attack and a good run by Cefn wing Jason Wilkes saw him cross for a try to narrow the gap to 19-18.  Despite trying, Cefn failed to get another score with the referee, Jeff Allen of Abertillery, blowing for full time shortly afterwards.

Next week the seconds are at Aberdare whilst the Youth host Ystradgynlais Youth in the Breconshire Cup.
